Nicola Moss - Island Tree

£1,750.00

63cm x 47cm. Frame 7cm width

This image brings together many of the visionary symbols Nicola often works with — the tree, mountain, water, sun, moon, and bird. At the centre stands the World Tree, rooted on an island, with a spring flowing from its base into the sea, all silhouetted against the glowing sun.

The composition is divided between day and night, or the inner and outer worlds, with a crescent moon suspended in the night sky. The sea below carries seeds and eggs — symbols of new life — while a bird-spirit soars overhead.

Nicola created the original version of this piece in the early 1990s while living in Minneapolis, USA, working primarily in monoprint. This painting is a later interpretation of one of those prints, bringing new life to the vision through paint.
