Sebastian Freudenthal

Born in Neuss and raised in the nearby village of Büttgen in West Germany, Sebastian’s journey with stone began in 2001 during a school event. This formative experience sparked a deep passion, leading him to a three-year apprenticeship in a small stone sculpture workshop, where he developed the foundational skills of stone crafting and sculpture.

After taking a break from the physically demanding nature of stonework, Sebastian spent time working on a farm before embarking on a second three-year apprenticeship in Pforzheim as a designer of jewellery and utensils. Immersed in the world of metal, he broadened his creative practice and deepened his understanding of materials.

In the years that followed, Sebastian travelled extensively, including a significant period in Brazil, where he helped build a community using traditional adobe construction techniques. These experiences, rooted in craft, culture, and connection, continue to inform his artistic practice.

Now based in Findhorn since 2019, Sebastian is focused on establishing himself as an artist — balancing self-employment and fatherhood, and exploring ways to reunite stone and metal, honouring the traditions that once bound them together.
